Expanding our reach: Wild animal suffering video course now available in Hindi

4 Sep 2025

We are happy to announce that we’ve released the first module of our video course on wild animal suffering in Hindi. The 12 videos of this module (including an introduction, and 11 different units) can be seen in the YouTube playlist. It covers the situation of animals in the wild as individuals, including the many harms they suffer, and ways of improving their situation, including some of the ways this is already being done.

The release of this course in Hindi represents a significant step forward in making crucial information about wild animal suffering accessible to one of the world’s largest populations. India’s cultural and philosophical traditions (almost 40% of the population report that they do not eat animals) create unique opportunities for advancing wild animal welfare in India. The country’s diverse ecosystems—from the Himalayas to tropical forests, grasslands, coastal regions, and all urban and peri-urban areas where wild animals also live—are home to an enormous variety of animals, many of whom experience significant suffering due to natural causes like disease, predation, starvation, and extreme weather events. The growing number of Hindi-speaking researchers, students, and advocates interested in animal ethics creates an important audience for evidence-based approaches to reducing wild animal suffering.

Wild animal suffering is a crucial issue that many people are unaware of or have serious misconceptions about. Education on the subject is therefore extremely important. We particularly invite professors who want to use it in their classes or groups of students interested in exploring ways to help wild animals to explore and use this content.

For many years, this issue has become a hallmark of Animal Ethics. In 2020, we published the complete video course on wild animal suffering in English. This is also available in Spanish, and now, in Hindi. We also published a video course on wild animals in Portuguese.
