December 10 is International Animal Rights Day, a date that commemorates the importance of recognizing and defending all sentient beings. At Animal Ethics, we want to contribute to this occasion by raising awareness about one of the most neglected and exploited groups of animals on the planet: aquatic animals, especially invertebrates.
As part of this effort, we will hold an online screening of Seantience, an Animal Ethics documentary exploring the latest scientific evidence on the sentience of fishes and aquatic invertebrates. After the screening, we will host a live presentation with Mart Gross, a professor emeritus of biology and one of the leading voices featured in the documentary. You can watch this screening on YouTube and ask your questions directly to Mart in real time.

Since launching just two months ago, the Seantience campaign has had a significant impact. We have held eight screenings, in collaboration with other organizations, in different cities, including New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Spain, Chile, and China, reaching hundreds of people interested in learning more about these animals. The response has been meeting our goals, with the public showing greater interest in understanding the reality of aquatic animals and in learning what actions they can take to help them.
This success inspires us to expand the campaign even further next year, with more screenings and activities across different regions of Europe, Asia, and America. Follow us on social media or visit the Seantience website to stay up to date on the full schedule of our upcoming activities!
As part of the educational materials we offer in the campaign, we are pleased to announce the release of an updated version of our report on the aquatic animals’ sentience. This resource provides rigorous and accessible information about these animals’ ability to feel, the problems they face, and what we can do to help them, providing a valuable resource for teachers at different educational levels, activists, or anyone interested in learning more about this topic.
Next year, we will publish a new, more specific report in English and Spanish on sentience in decapod crustaceans. The Portuguese version of this new report is already available, and will be presented live on December 10th, as part of our events for International Animal Rights Day.
This Seantience campaign requires resources to reach even more people and continue producing quality content. We need funding to expand screenings to new regions and to produce the documentary in Portuguese and Chinese, thereby expanding our global reach in 2026.
If you want to be part of the campaign, this is the best opportunity to donate because every dollar you contribute NOW will be DOUBLED. During these weeks and until January 7, a generous donor has committed to doubling all donations up to $30,000. So, a donation of $5 would become $10, $100 would become $200, and so on.
This means that your contribution will have an even greater impact on our mission to create a better world for all sentient beings.

None of this work would be possible without the generosity of people who believe in the importance of raising awareness and demanding respect for the most ignored animals. If you believe this work is worthwhile, donate now to Animal Ethics and help us expand this campaign. Every contribution counts!
