The referees for the Animal Ethics Essay Prize have read the essays that were submitted and came to the following conclusion. They considered some of the papers well argued and original, but concluded that none of them met the high standards required to be eligible for the prize. Therefore, no prize will be awarded this year.
Animal Ethics has decided to use the money that was set aside for the prize to give a $1,500 research grant to the author of the paper that got the best evaluation, “In Praise of Invasive Species”, to continue the promising research she began on the subject of animals labeled “invasive species.” The author of this paper is Meera Inglis, from the Department of Politics of the University of Sheffield.
Thank you to all who submitted essays. The details of the 2nd essay prize will be announced in a few months.
