Why is this important?
Animal Ethics works in highly neglected yet crucially important areas in animal advocacy, including wild animal suffering, transforming speciesist attitudes, and raising concern about animals in the future, all with a longtermist approach. We work in movement building in ways that benefit animal advocacy as a whole.
The work you can make possible
In 2023, we expanded our presence internationally. In addition to being active in the US and Europe (in the UK, Spain, Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal), we have reached many other places. We gave talks and attended conferences in numerous Asian countries (India, Nepal, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia). We also participated in events organized in Latin America (including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile). You can read more about our activities this year on our website.
We have also published many more materials. We now have more than 240 videos on our different YouTube channels, not including shorts. The videos have been viewed more than 189,000 times. Our website is now available in 11 languages, and including all languages, it contains close to 2,000 pages. We intend to continue reaching new languages and countries, though how much we can do depends on whether people like you support our work.
As for research, we regularly publish pieces about ways to help wild animals. This year, the Journal of Wildlife Diseases published a study funded by Animal Ethics that examined causes of harm to wild animals in Canada. In addition, a new paper was published countering objections to helping wild animals based on a survey conducted by Animal Ethics, involving natural science scholars and students to gauge opinions on different ways to help wild animals. We also published a literature review about how to help wild animals through contraception.
In addition, we do meta work reaching other activists in many countries. We have participated in advocacy forums in the US, Europe, and Asia. We pay special attention to countries that are typically neglected: we have been working on programs educating high school teachers, scholars, and students in universities in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world.
